Family Fun: Transport and Tours
As a Londoner, the river Thames is my favorite place for getting the best view of the city. I regularly jump on a boat at Westminster pier and relax as it winds its way down to Greenwich. You can also go the other way up to Kew and Hampton Court Palace. Operators include City Cruises, Transport for London and Catamaran Cruisers among others. My recommendation: check times first and turn up with a travel card (many operators give up to a third off fares). Make sure you get the right pier.Single fares start at around £2.50 (adult) and £1.25 for kids, family tickets are available too and remember to ask about discounts.
Travelcards are valid for one and three days and can be purchased from any TfL ticket office. Seven day travelcards can only be purchased with Oyster cards or at BR stations. London is divided into six zones, zone 1 being the most central and six the furthest away. Travelcards are valid for buses, underground, DLR, BR and trams and offer discounts on river services, for more information visit the Transport for London (TfL) website: www.tfl.gov.uk.
Under 5s travel free at any time and all children under the age of 16 travel free after 9.30am M-F and at any time over the weekend. Children aged 14-15 need a Child Oyster, ‘11-15' or Child photocard.

Walking Tour Guide
This is a great idea. Tourist Tracks produce a number of audio guides to lead you on a tour of the City. You can either download a copy or order a CD. At the moment you can get either City of London or City of Westminster tour guides, both take around 90 minutes to complete. You'll need to work out how you all listen at the same time, although it might be fun strapping something with speakers to your back!
Cost: £5 for a download or £7 for a CD (incl. P&P)
