Family Fun: Sport

In this section there are two types of entry:

1) Sporting organisations, associations and bodies

2) venues/facilities offering sports & leisure activities.

If you know what it is you want to do, but can't find a venue then contact the governing body or association who should be able to help. If we've missed anything then let us know. Tell us about how you get on and send any tips you would like to share.

Sport England is a good point of contact to find the main bodies of various sports that will have contact details for regional/local reps and clubs. Remember most clubs are run by volunteers who are passionate about their sport and openly welcome new members. Don’t right anything off until you have had a go and don’t let pre-conceptions influence your judgment. It’s about finding something your child likes, something that keeps them active and that offers the chance to interact with others. Ultimately, building fitness and self confidence.

The modern Olympic sport requires fencers to be of the fittest of athletes and have levels of skills which require many hours of dedicated training. Large number of clubs now exist throughout the UK. Some are run as evening classes and others are organised within sports centres, youth clubs, schools and colleges. Initially, you should make enquiries at your local library, Town or City Council Sport and Recreation Department and Regional Sports Council office. Most clubs are affiliated to the British Fencing Association (BFA) and information on your local clubs and regional fencing organisers may be obtained from the BFA.
